As for any other sport, for tennis, it is very important not only quality coverage, but also light. The lighting of the tennis court is normalized as clearly as the size and marking. It is important to organize it correctly, based on calculations and a deep, professional understanding of the principles of photometry. This formed the basis of our standard project, which is fully ready for implementation.
Norms of lighting of a tennis court
Given that the ball for the game is small, it is sometimes necessary to take it from a great height, special attention should be paid to compliance with the coefficients of blindness. For tennis, this figure does not exceed 50. Also, the comfort of the player and the quality of the game is affected by the presence of flicker. Ideally, it should not be.
There are certain requirements for the lighting itself:
- For indoor areas, it is 300 lux;
- Outdoor courts - 200 lux.
It is important to follow the distribution of light. It should be as uniform as possible over the entire area. Lighting on the whole site is also taken into account - it should be at least 120 lux behind the playing field.
Floodlights of tennis court lighting
In tennis, the player's gaze is often directed upwards, and the ball passes at a fairly high height. This point is very important to consider when choosing lighting fixtures. So floodlights with a symmetrical optical system are absolutely not suitable for creating the necessary illumination. In this case, light cones are formed with a fairly small angle, at high altitudes the ball is in the shadows, which affects the quality of the game.
This issue is solved by selecting lamps with low side faces and adjusting the angle of illumination - here you can achieve the same effect as from asymmetrical models but at a more comfortable price.
Another point is the power of the lamp. It is not necessary to reduce the number of points of light by increasing it. This will lead to a violation of the balance of illumination, increasing the coefficient of glare.
Description and advantages of a typical project from our company
Thanks to the professionalism of our designers, all requirements were taken into account as much as possible. The equipment was selected based on the norms of outdoor tennis lighting, as well as durability and strength.
This typical project is presented in two versions:
- With galvanized poles from Europoles;
- With anodized aluminium poles with a choice of colours.
In the first case, you get fairly strong poles with a neat but standard appearance. The cost of the project will be lower. Anodized poles, although more expensive, but are not only open up additional opportunities in the design but also last longer, less prone to weathering in the form of humidity changes.

This combination allows at reasonable costs to comply with all requirements for the level and quality of lighting.
The second option differs in the choice of equipment - aluminium poles and ROSA headrests. Everything else is in the same quantity and from the same manufacturers. This significantly increases the service life of poles and headers, as well as their appearance. Despite the higher cost, it pays for itself with a long period of operation without the need for repair.
